JLS 3D film best ever attended music cinema event in UK

Only meant to be shown for one day, Eyes Wide Open, the 3D film extravaganza from JLS, had to extend it’s nationwide screenings, not just once but twice, making it the best attended music cinema event ever staged in the UK.

Produced by Bikini and Fulwell 73 and filmed on JLS’ sold-out UK arena tour, the movie goes behind the scenes to hear from the band what goes into being JLS as well as amazing concert footage shot at The O2, London in front of capacity crowds in January 2011.

Richard Griffiths of Modest! Management: ‘We are thrilled with the fans’ response to the film. The cinema promotion was perfect timing ahead of our summer tour and new single “She Makes Me Wanna”. Making this movie was a huge undertaking and breaking the record for attendance cements JLS’ position as pop superstars’.

With total ticket sales for Eyes Wide Open now in excess of 70,000, premium content distributor Omniverse Vision has beaten its own previously held record for Les Misérables. The JLS film hit the top five of the UK Box Office chart on day of release and remained firmly in the Top 10 across the opening weekend.

John Gaydon of Omniverse Vision: ‘For us the event experience in cinemas is crucial and JLS: Eyes Wide Open has raised the bar to new heights. With so many fans enjoying the movie on the same day we are confident that our unique approach to this movie release helped deliver an amazing result for the band and for our cinema partners’.

Unprecedented demand saw advance ticket sales rocketing with many cinemas selling out during the JLS fan-club ticket-presale. Over 100 extra cinema locations were then added across the UK and Ireland taking the total number of cinemas to 300. The film proved to be so popular that cinemas called for extra nationwide screenings again the following weekend, giving the film over 1000 screenings in total.

Mark de Quervain, Sales and Marketing Director of Vue Entertainment: ‘JLS has been nothing short of phenomenal for us. This was definitely a landmark event for Vue since we started showing alternative content back in 2007. This clearly shows that the public love to watch their favourite bands and artists in fantastic HD on our big screens... Larger than Live. We look forward to many more events like this in the future’.

Forthcoming events from Omniverse Vision include “Peter Gabriel: New Blood 3D”, “God Bless Ozzy Osbourne” and “Fastest” a Moto GP documentary featuring Valentino Rossi.
